Does AlertSOS need an internet connection?
Only for sending the WhatsApp location message. The SOS siren, vibration, and emergency phone call work completely offline.
Is my personal data stored on a server?
No. AlertSOS stores everything locally on your device. We have no servers holding your data.
How do I set up emergency contacts for WhatsApp?
Go to Settings › WhatsApp Contacts › Add from contacts. Important: the number must include the international country code.
The WhatsApp button is not working. What should I do?
Check the following: 1) WhatsApp is installed. 2) You have added at least one contact in Settings. 3) Location (GPS) is enabled. 4) The contact's number includes the country code.
How do I change the alarm sound?
Go to Settings › Alarm Sound. Tap the play button to preview any sound, then select it and press Save.
How does 'Shake to Activate' work?
Shaking your phone quickly 2–3 times triggers the SOS alarm — useful when your hands are occupied. You can turn this on or off in Settings.
The app says 'Location Permission Denied'. How do I fix it?
Go to your phone's Settings › Apps › AlertSOS › Permissions › Location › Allow. Also enable GPS from your phone's quick settings panel.
How do I set the emergency call number?
Go to Settings › Emergency Number and enter the number for your country (e.g. 112 in Europe, 911 in USA/Mexico, 999 in UK, 000 in Australia). The app tries to detect your country automatically.
How do I add the AlertSOS widget to my home screen?
On Android: long-press an empty area of your home screen › Widgets › AlertSOS. On iOS: this feature is in progress.
Is AlertSOS free? Are there subscriptions?
AlertSOS is completely free. Supported by unobtrusive banner ads. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no hidden costs.
